Travellers now exclusively use the Coquihalla Highway, bypassing the closure. The fire near Hope burns northeast of the Coquihalla interchange, sending thick smoke. Smoke is heavy and easy to see, reducing visibility. A second blaze erupted south of Boston Bar on Tuesday. This second fire affects 300 hectares. It compelled officials to close Highway 1 in the same area. Two key routes into southern BC are now impeded.
